Lingam Shrine Bangkok
Bangkok is a city of temples, mosques and churches. Inhabitants of Bangkok are very religious in nature. There are various myths and beliefs regarding the religion among the people of Bangkok. The city is rich with old cultural heritage. Other than temples, mosques and churches there are other religious structures in Bangkok which gave the city a unique feature. One of them is obviously Lingam Shrine.
Lingam Shrine is a small phallic structure at Nai Lert Park in Bangkok. The situation of this shrine is little bit unusual. It is located at the Swissotel Hotel. Lingam Shrine was constructed by a well established business man. He created this shrine to give tribute to a female spirit called Jao Mae. It is the spirit of fertility and it is believed that she stays in the Banyan tree of that place. Lingam Shrine is very famous among the young women who seek fertility. There is a myth among them that in the past a woman gave some gifts to the shrine and she became fertile. So this made the local women to believe strongly about the strength of the spirit. It is a peculiar site that attracts tourists. The visitor love to have a sight on this colorful and unusual thing.
